Does anyone have any experience cutting and baling hay with John Deere 4600? Is this machine big enough and if so, what size mower and balers have been used?

I have never seen anyone bale with regular sized baler and a 4300 tractor, but it might be possible. Carver Equipment sells smaller equipment designed for these small tractors (see top of page, enter Carver and then implements). I have not seen these smaller units anywhere else.

Dave,

The JD4600 is similiar in size and hp to my NewHolland TC40D (actually a few hp more). I use my TC40D for baling (std square) and pull a haywagon while baling. I do not pull the largest haywagon (holds 275 bales) but use the smaller wagons (only 150ish bales).

Plan on using the haybine for mowing later this year after installing a remote valve on the tractor.

Don't remember the model numbers of either piece of equipment.

At 43hp. your 4600 has plenty of power to pull a standard square baler with no problems. I would bale 1/2 section with an old 8N Ford pulling an Allis Chambers baler with no problem whatsoever. Your problem will be pulling a Swather.Haybine if that's the way you want to go. In that case I used a large 730 JD to pull the New Holland Swather....there you will need horse power. However, you can use your 4600 to pull a rotary cutter or JD sikle bar and then go back over it with a multi wheeled rake to make your windrows....At any rate that 4600 for hay production will do just fine....Good Luck ther's nothing like baling hay ....
